Diabetes of both Type 1 as well as Type 2 are quite similar, as both have increased level of glucose level and less number of body cells. In case of Type 1, glucose levels rise because of insulin lack caused by destruction of insulin secreting cells. Individual suffering from diabetes would certainly face the below mentioned signs or symptoms, which would help in identifying the disease:

- Frequent visits of bathroom and an urge to urinate due to increased levels of glucose. Kidneys unable to filter the glucose in the blood stream and draw water from blood in order to dilute glucose leading to constantly full bladder.
- Unquenchable thirst, as the body requires all that extra water in order to dilute blood glucose levels. Dehydration becomes extremely important for the body.
- Losing weight without any reason. Most prominent in Type 1 where the pancreas cease to make the insulin due to viral attacks or autoimmune response of the body. The body in absence of glucose begins to break the muscle tissue as well as stored fats for the energy to work.
- Weakness as well as fatigue are two most prominent signs of diabetes. Glucose present in the blood stream gets transferred to the cells with help of insulin. In absence of insulin or the developed resistance against it by the cells, the diffusion of glucose gets stopped. Cells are energy starved that lead to tiredness as well as low spirits.
- Numbness felt in hands, feet and legs is another symptom, scientifically called as neuropathy. This symptom develops over a period of time, as the high glucose level damages the body's nervous system.
- Other signs as well as symptoms shown by the silent disease include blurred vision, frequent infections, bruises, cuts, which take prolonged time for healing. Also included in this list is the dry skin which is sometimes itchy.
