Diabetes and Its Symptoms | USA Vein Clinics

Diabetes and Its Symptoms | USA Vein Clinics

Diabetes of both Type 1 as well as Type 2 are quite similar, as both have increased level of glucose level and less number of body cells. In case of Type 1, glucose levels rise because of insulin lack caused by destruction of insulin secreting cells. Individual suffering from diabetes would certainly face the below mentioned signs or symptoms, which would help in identifying the disease:
Diabetes and Its Symptoms
  • Frequent visits of bathroom and an urge to urinate due to increased levels of glucose. Kidneys unable to filter the glucose in the blood stream and draw water from blood in order to dilute glucose leading to constantly full bladder.
  • Unquenchable thirst, as the body requires all that extra water in order to dilute blood glucose levels. Dehydration becomes extremely important for the body.
  • Losing weight without any reason. Most prominent in Type 1 where the pancreas cease to make the insulin due to viral attacks or autoimmune response of the body. The body in absence of glucose begins to break the muscle tissue as well as stored fats for the energy to work.
  • Weakness as well as fatigue are two most prominent signs of diabetes. Glucose present in the blood stream gets transferred to the cells with help of insulin. In absence of insulin or the developed resistance against it by the cells, the diffusion of glucose gets stopped. Cells are energy starved that lead to tiredness as well as low spirits.
  • Numbness felt in hands, feet and legs is another symptom, scientifically called as neuropathy. This symptom develops over a period of time, as the high glucose level damages the body's nervous system.
  • Other signs as well as symptoms shown by the silent disease include blurred vision, frequent infections, bruises, cuts, which take prolonged time for healing. Also included in this list is the dry skin which is sometimes itchy.
However, it is important to understand that these are simply indicators of the deep turmoil taking place in your body. If you are experiencing these signs, it is advised to schedule your appointment with the doctor to get to the bottom of these symptoms. It is always better to be sure than deal with severe effects by neglecting these signs. Remember health is the prime concern, rest all may wait for another day. Keep your eyes open for the symptoms and nip the problem in the bud.

Causes of Vein Diseases
April-Fools-Day-is-a-holiday-recognized-in-many-countries-all-over-the-world-on-April-1-every-yearVeins transport the blood to one’s heart. In a healthy condition, the veins of the leg would allow movement of blood in single direction – upstream in the direction of your heart. However when this fails, blood tends to pool in the legs causing several heath related issues including blood clots, spider veins, swollen ankles, leg pain and ulcers.
Veins are the vessels meant to return blood without any oxygen as well as nutrients to one’s heart. For this process to take place, the muscles of the leg squeeze deep veins while feet push non-oxygenated blood to one’s heart. Veins have one-way valves, which facilitate the flow of blood in one direction. However, in cases where the veins are unable to pump blood to one’s heart, blood pools in legs and causing various venous insufficiencies.

At 30, Are You Healthy? Get Yourself Examined | USA Vein Clinics

At 30, Are You Healthy? Get Yourself Examined | USA Vein Clinics

"Health is wealth" is rightly said. If you are healthy, you can lead a happy life that you can cherish as your biggest wealth. But what if your body is deteriorating from inside and you are unaware of that? This is the most common phenomenon among all of us whereby we choose not go to the doctor for a body checkup until diagnosed with an implication. Our body is like a machine that keeps on moving or working as much as we want, but at certain point it also needs ‘overhauling’ like mechanical equipment. This ‘overhauling’ in medical terms is called ‘complete body checkup’.

Most of the times, we read that ‘tests after the age of 40’, but we should not ignore the 30th year of our life, as by this time our body has already experienced a lot mentally and physically. So there are various tests prescribed by the medical practitioners that should be conducted at the age of 30. Here is the list of some common tests:

• Cholesterol test - This test has been recommended by the American Heart Association in every 5 years for the people of 20 years and above. At the age of 20, we consider ourselves youngsters, but at 30, you should not avoid it. A ‘lipoprotein profile’ is usually tested through a blood sample that determines HDL (good), LDL (bad) and triglycerides.

• Blood sugar test – Diabetes is a normal ailment found in people of almost all ages. However, 30+ people should be extra cautious about this implication. Your blood sample may easily identify the measure of sugar in your body.

• Thyroid test – This test determines the functioning or the thyroid gland. TFT’s (Thyroid Functioning tests) are conducted to identify if the patient is suffering from underactive thyroid or overactive thyroid. Both these conditions require medical treatments.

• Kidney and liver tests – Enzyme levels are detected in the liver tests and BUN (blood urea nitrogen) is usually tested in Kidney tests. These tests detect the abnormalities in the liver and kidney.

These tests can be conducted for both male and female with either blood sample or urine sample, and in few tests, both samples are required. It is advisable by the health experts that one should not avoid these general tests, as the results of these tests may give a clear picture of one’s internal body health. Also, don't forget to schedule a check up for varicose veins too.

Swimming To Lose Weight – The Best Weight Loss Program | USA Vein Clinics

Did you know that you can lose the excess and unwanted weight in your body by swimming? Unfortunately, very few people know that swimming is one of the best workout activities. Swimming lets you lose all the excess fats in a pleasant way. With swimming, you get pleasure from losing the excess weight in your body? To most people, swimming is just a hobby. The truth of the matter is – swimming is more than just a hobby. Swimming acts as a hobby and a workout activity.

As a workout program, swimming lets you exercise every single part of your body. That’s right; you exercise your hands, legs and other parts of your body. When swimming, you use your legs and hands to move around the pool. To move around the pool, your body requires energy. Excess fats in the body burn to supply the energy required in the swimming process.
The fact that most people enjoy swimming makes it one of the best workout activities. Although most people engage in swimming as a hobby, they end up achieving two goals – pleasure and weight loss. They enjoy and burn the excess fats at the same time.

With swimming to lose weight, you don’t have to undergo all the stresses associated with common weight loss programs. You don’t have to spend hours at the gym, you don’t have to starve yourself to death, and you don’t have to stay away from your favourite meals just because they’re fatty or sugary. All you need to do is come up with a swimming schedule or timetable and stick to it. Consistency is a very important factor in every weight loss program. Since swimming is a pleasurable activity, I am sure consistency won’t be a problem.

Swimming is one of the most economical weight loss programs. In fact, you need not invest in funny weight loss programs or diets. All you require is access to a swimming pool and the services of a swimming instructor. If you are an experienced swimmer, you don’t need an instructor.

Since your legs are an important part of your “swimming to lose weight” program remember to have regular varicose veins check-ups (veins that have enlarged and become tortuous). The check-ups will help identify cases of venous insufficiency in your legs. Fortunately, this medical condition is curable. The earlier the condition is detected, the better.

Different Stages of Vein Diseases | USA Vein Clinics

Different Stages of Vein Diseases | USA Vein Clinics

Vein Disease affects millions of people, but all in a different way. Someone might be experiencing only mild symptoms with appearance of just few spider veins, whereas someone might have significant symptoms like burning or aching of the legs with a ropey vein and swelling in their legs. The only thing, which is common, is that it worsens for everyone without treatment.

There are 6 different stages of Vein Diseases;

Clinical Class 1: Spider VeinsDepositphotos 3736250 XL
At this stage, the spider veins or telangiectasia, as it is scientifically known as, occur as tiny veins inside the skin. There are more than 50% chances of anyone with even the mildest form of vein disease to get it at this symptom.

Clinical Class 2: Varicose Veins

This is when usually people realize about the disease, as it showcases a large dilated superficial vein, and thus interferes with day to day life.

Clinical Class 3: Leg Edema

This is when the backflow of the venous system begins to interfere with body’s fluid re-absorption capability, thus causing the swelling.

Clinical Class 4: Skin Changes

The skin becomes de-colored to whitish or reddish brown color, and it also becomes thinner. The skin becomes highly prone to injuries and heals very slowly. These changes to the skin are due to venous congestion.

Clinical Class 5 and 6: Leg Ulcers

The 5th and 6th stages are same, but differ with the intensity of symptoms. The venous congestion, leading to the stage four, develops with time, and by the 5th and 6th stage, it has progressed to such an extent that it begins to interfere with the ability of blood to provide nutrition to the skin cells, and thus causing Venous Ulcers. This reduces significantly the healing time of any skin injury, if it heals at all. If the disease is not brought under control, the resulting ulcers can last for two years for around 20% of the cases. The Class 5 Vein is actually used to describe healed venous ulcer. The Class 6 vein disease usually describes legs with active ulcers. The Venous diseases are the most common ulcers of the leg, and yet many don’t know that there are effective varicose vein treatments available in the market.

Common Varicose Veins Symptoms | USA Vein Clinics

Common Varicose Veins Symptoms | USA Vein Clinics

Varicose veins are swollen veins positioned under your skin. The lumpy veins, which are usually dark blue or purple, usually affect your legs. The veins develop when there are issues with the flow of blood through the veins in your legs. The oxygen-poor blood does not move away from the legs.

This medical condition is so common that it affects about a third of people in the world. Research has shown that Varicose veins affect more women than men. The only problem is that very few people suffering from this condition know that they are suffering from it. In other words, very few people know the symptoms associated with the medical conditions.

Below are some of the general symptoms associated Varicose veins:

  • Dark purple or blue veins on your legs (especially on the calf or thigh).
  • Twisted and bulging veins on your legs. The veins appear like cords on your legs.Depositphotos 10773453 XL1
  • Swollen legs and ankles
  • Open sores or severe bleeding after minor injuries. Injuries usually take long periods to heal.
  • Skin changes like changes in color, inflammation, scaling, and dry thinned skin.
  • Severe pains after standing or sitting for long.
  • Swollen ankles (especially in the evenings).
  • Forming of cramps when making sudden moves e.g. standing up suddenly.
  • Painful and heavy legs after exercises and long distances of walking.
  • Spider veins may appear on the affected leg(s). A network of lumpy veins forms on the affected leg.
  • Shrinking on the skin above the ankle. The shrinking is caused by the hardening of the fat underneath the skin.
  • Stasis dermatitis (redness, dryness, and itchiness of areas of the affected leg). This is caused by build up of waste material in the leg(s) – the oxygen-poor blood does not move away from the legs.
  • Itchy veins (or areas near the veins).
  • Throbbing or burning in your legs.

The above are only some of the general symptoms associated with Varicose Veins; there may be other symptoms not covered in the above list. A person suffering from the medical condition may show one or more of the above symptoms.

Remember to visit your doctor for regular check ups. This will ensure that cases of venous insufficiency and Varicose Veins are detected and treated early enough. The earlier a medical condition is detected the better.
